Crash Course in Data Management - 25.11.2026

Lost files, unclear folder structures and undocumented datasets cost researchers time and can put results at risk. Funders and journals also increasingly expect data to be well managed and shared openly, so good data management is now a core research skill rather than an optional extra. This introductory webinar gives you practical skills to organise and manage your research data effectively.

Data Management Plan Consultation - 1.12.2026

Planning how your research data will be collected, stored, shared and preserved is now a requirement from most funders, and a well-crafted Data Management Plan (DMP) can strengthen your grant application. In this DMP consultation, our expert helps you anticipate data management-related risks, budget for the resources you’ll need, and clarify team responsibilities early, before small oversights become costly problems. The result is a plan that makes your work more efficient and your data more FAIR, so your research continues to have an impact long after the project ends.

bio.tools: keeping up with the growing world of life-science software

Finding the right research software can be challenging, especially as new tools and databases are continually being developed. bio.tools helps researchers navigate this growing landscape by bringing life-science software together in a single registry. It has grown to over 33,000 tools and databases, described using structured metadata and the EDAM ontology.

Competence day “AI at the university: skills, responsibility and critical choices”

On 29 September from 11:00–17:30, the university library’s conference hall will host the competence day “Artificial intelligence at the university: skills, responsibility and critical choices”, to which the entire university community is warmly invited. The event is organised by the University of Tartu Centre for Teaching and Learning. After the lunch break, practical workshops will run in two sessions: ELIXIR Estonia will teach data visualisation with the help of artificial intelligence.

Student thesis topics 2026

ELEVATE-DM: Strengthening Data Stewardship Across Europe

Estonia is one of Europe’s most digitally advanced countries. From X-Road to nationally coordinated digital services, we have built an ecosystem that makes sharing and using information remarkably efficient. But strong digital infrastructure alone does not create strong research data management.

As research becomes increasingly collaborative and data-intensive, researchers need more than technology - they need clear guidance, institutional support, professional expertise, and communities that help them manage data throughout its lifecycle. That is exactly what ELEVATE-DM aims to strengthen.

Training on FAIR Principles in Data Management

This 4 session training course “Training on FAIR Principles in Data Management” is tailored for Kyiv School of Economics, the Ukrainian partner in the BRIDGE twinning project that is being implemented together with University of Tartu. Covering basic data management best practices and trickiest aspects of handling data with a focus on social sciences.
