This Tableau course is designed to equip learners with the essential skills required to navigate the software’s core features. Students will learn to create compelling visualisations, manipulate data, develop dashboards, and share insights effectively.
Seminaril käsitleme andmete visualiseerimise tähtsust ning seda, mida peaksime visualiseerimise loomisel arvesse võtma. See hõlmab muu hulgas joonise tüübi valikut, lisatava teabe hulka, mida ja kuidas esile tõsta jne. Võtame luubi alla ka näiteid päriselust.
Me teeme andmete visualiseerimist kasutades ggplot2 paketti, mis on R-s laialdaselt kasutatav, ning loodud visuaalselt atraktiivsete ja kõrgelt kohandatavate graafikute loomiseks.
“Visualisation with RStudio” will be a follow-up to “RStudio Basic” workshop and “Data visualisation” webinar. We will do data visualisation using ggplot2 package. ggplot2 is a widely-used data visualization package in R, designed to create visually appealing and highly customizable graphics.

In the course of their work, researchers encounter data in various forms. Yet, when data is presented in its raw, tabular form, it often appears as a complex puzzle. This can be especially overwhelming when dealing with large datasets. Fortunately, this is where the magic of data visualization comes into play. The main idea is to extract the key insights from the data and craft a narrative around it. However, it's important to note that hasty chart-making can lead to confusion. Poorly designed visuals not only risk misinterpretation but can also be misleading. That's why it's crucial to approach data visualization thoughtfully and precisely.
This webinar will discuss why data visualisation is important and what we should consider when designing it. This lecture will be followed up by a separate workshop on the 14th of November called “RStudio Visualisation,” where you can put your knowledge into practice.

Due to high demand, on the 4th of April 2023, ELIXIR-Estonia will hold a repeat data management online course: Data Visualization I - Figures. The course will be held in English.
All researchers will be handling some data at some point in their careers. However, the data, in its regular shape (tables), is quite hard to grasp for most people. Especially if there is a lot of it, this is where data visualization comes to help. The idea is to bring forth the essential aspects of the data - to tell a story. However, just putting data into a graph or figure might do more harm than good. Not only could it give wrong conclusions, but it also might be misleading. This is one of the main reasons why the exact way how you visualize the data is fundamental.

Learning outcomes for the participants:
“Data Visualisation I - Figures workshop” will be a follow-up to “Data Visualisation I - Figures” lecture. During the face-to-face workshop held in English we will do data visualisation using ggplot2 and Tableau. We will compare the user experience and the aesthetics of the results of both visualisation options. We will also put to use our knowledge of good practices in data visualisation we learned in the lecture.
