FiBar: A New Tool for Fiber Diameter Analysis in Drug Delivery Research

This summer, Marilin Moor, Product Manager of ELIXIR Estonia and now a PhD student at the University of Tartu, published a new article presenting FiBar, a tool for analysing fiber diameters in complex drug delivery systems. The research was carried out in collaboration with the Institute of Pharmacy (Laura Männaste, Marta Putrinš and Professor Karin Kogermann) and Dmytro Fishman, Associate Professor in Artificial Intelligence at the Institute of Computer Science, University of Tartu.

RDMkit: Guiding Life Scientists in Research Data Management

ELIXIR Estonia is proud to showcase the Research Data Management Kit (RDMkit), a community-led knowledge resource for life sciences that helps researchers and data stewards navigate the complexities of managing research data. Licensing Research Outputs - 05.09.2025

In scientific research, you work with many types of outputs, whether created by you or by others. How can you ensure that others give you proper credit when using your materials? And how can you know exactly what you are allowed to do with resources created by others? These questions fall under the scope of copyright law.

This lecture will explain what copyright laws do, who holds the rights to research materials, and how those rights affect their use. We will cover the role of licenses in protecting and sharing different types of outputs—such as figures, datasets, and software—and explain what each license permits. Finally, we will demonstrate how to choose and apply an appropriate license to your own research outputs.

Crash Course in Data Management is an introductory course that equips researchers with the necessary skills for effective organisation and management of research data. In May, the University of Tartu Institute of Computer Science and ELIXIR Estonia had the pleasure of hosting a productive ELIXIR Week, featuring both the ELITMa and a co-located Interoperability Platform workshop. From May 19th to 22nd, data management experts and colleagues from 11 ELIXIR Nodes across Europe gathered at the Institute of Computer Science to focus on key research data management and interoperability areas.
